The Om stands raised from the face of the coin and is laid entirely in natural rubies, so the character reads as one continuous line of deep red against bright silver. A beaded rim frames the face, and the reverse carries our mark, HOZ, inside a ring of lotus petals. 3 cm thick. That makes it the natural choice for Dhanteras and Diwali, a griha pravesh, the first coin for a new baby, or a gift for clients and colleagues when a box of sweets feels too ordinary. In the tradition, ruby (manik) is the stone of Surya, the sun, associated with warmth, vitality and clear purpose. This is a traditional association rather than a claim about what the stone will do. Each coin is made to order in New Delhi, certified, insured and gift boxed.

The symbol

Om is held to be the sound from which everything else follows, the syllable spoken at the opening and closing of prayer. On Dhanteras, the first day of Diwali, families traditionally bring home something of silver or gold to welcome Lakshmi into the house. This coin joins the two: the first sound, written in the stone of the sun, on the metal of the festival.

How it is made

The Om is drawn first, then modelled and cast in 925 sterling silver so the character stands proud of the face. Each natural ruby is set by hand into the raised Om, one stone after another, the dot first and the lower curves last, so the line of red reads as continuous rather than spotted. The beaded rim and the lotus border on the reverse are finished by hand, and the coin is polished to a bright face before it is boxed.
