The letter S, drawn as a single curve in natural gemstones. Of all the letters, the S is the hardest to set. It has no straight line anywhere, and a curve made of separate stones will read as a row of dots unless every one is turned slightly against the last. The stones grow larger through the belly of the curve and taper at both ends, which is what makes the eye read a stroke rather than a sequence. Set onto cream suede in the same amethyst, citrine, peridot and blue topaz as our sacred pieces, framed in solid wood, standing on its own engraved base. Given as a family initial at a griha pravesh, or for a child.

The symbol
A single letter is the shortest way of saying who a house belongs to. Long before nameplates, a letter was carved into a lintel or pressed into wax to mark what was yours. Given at a new home, an initial says the family and the house now share a name.
How it is made
The S has no straight line in it, which makes it the most exacting letter we set. Each stone is rotated a few degrees against the one before it, so the curve reads as a continuous stroke rather than a row of separate stones. Sizes grow through the belly of the curve and taper at both terminals, the way a written S thickens under the pen and lifts at the end.
