Letter D in Natural Gemstones, Personalised Initial

Blue Topaz · Walnut

Available, individually presented

The letter D, drawn in natural gemstones. One straight stem and one long bowl. The difficulty is where they meet: the curve has to leave the stem cleanly at the top and return to it at the bottom, and a stone a fraction out at either join makes the whole letter look soft. The stones widen through the outer curve and narrow as the bowl returns, so the letter carries the weight a written D has under the pen. Set onto cream suede in the same Blue Topaz as our sacred pieces, framed in solid wood, standing on its own engraved base. Given as a family initial at a griha pravesh, or for a child.

The symbol

A single letter is the shortest way of saying who a house belongs to. Long before nameplates, a letter was carved into a lintel or pressed into wax to mark what was yours. Given at a new home, an initial says the family and the house now share a name.

How it is made

The D is a straight stem and a single long bowl, and the whole letter is decided at the two joins. The curve must leave the stem cleanly at the top and meet it again at the foot; a stone slightly out at either point makes the letter read as soft rather than deliberate. Stones widen through the outer curve and narrow as the bowl returns, carrying the weight a written D has under the pen.

Questions about this piece

It is an object for a home or a desk. The stones are laid on cream suede inside a solid wood frame with its own stand, not mounted in jewellery. It is not a ratna prescribed for astrological remedy, and nothing about it needs to be worn, energised or activated.
