Caring for a Sealed Gemstone Piece

A sealed piece is designed to be low maintenance, which is rather the point of sealing it. Still, a few habits will keep it looking exactly as it did on the day it arrived.
Light
Direct, sustained sunlight is the one genuine risk. Some stones, amethyst and kunzite among them, can fade over years of strong exposure, and suede backing will lift in tone. Display the piece where it catches good ambient daylight rather than a beam of it.
Dusting
Glass only, and dry. A clean microfibre cloth, lightly, in one direction. Never spray anything onto the piece; if you must use a glass cleaner, put a little onto the cloth well away from the work and let it be barely damp.
Humidity and temperature
Ordinary indoor conditions are fine. Avoid the extremes: a bathroom, a windowsill above a radiator, an unheated storeroom over winter. Rapid swings are harder on a sealed case than any steady temperature.
Handling and moving
Carry it flat and with two hands, not by one edge. If you are moving house, transport it flat in its original box rather than upright in a bag.
What never to do
Do not open the seal. Do not use ultrasonic or steam cleaners anywhere near it. Do not attempt to reposition a stone yourself. If something ever needs attention, our workshop will re-present the piece for you, for the life of the object.
