Shiva's trident, laid in fifty one stones. The three prongs are blue topaz, the shaft peridot, and the damaru bindings picked out in thirty four small citrine rounds. The colour is deliberately cool, blue and green against warm gold, so the shaft reads as metal rather than as another prong. Every stone is placed by hand onto cream suede, then framed in solid wood and set on an engraved stand. The trishul is among the most direct of the sacred symbols, and it suits a room where you want one strong vertical rather than a spread of colour. In the tradition, blue topaz is linked to Guru, associated with judgement and learning. Peridot belongs to Budh, associated with intellect, and citrine to Brihaspati, associated with expansion. These are traditional associations rather than claims about what a stone will do.

The symbol
The three prongs are read as creation, preservation and dissolution, and also as the three gunas, sattva, rajas and tamas, held in one hand. The damaru bound at the shaft is the drum whose sound is said to have begun time. Taken together the trishul is less a weapon than a statement that the three are inseparable.
How it is made
Fifty one stones in four cuts. The shaft is a single line of peridot ovals and pears running the full height, laid first, because everything else is measured against it. The thirty four citrine rounds are 3 mm, the smallest stones we set, and they mark the binding at the centre. Eight blue topaz ovals form the three prongs. Placed by hand onto suede, framed in solid wood, engraved base.
